Gôl! was launched in November 2002 by a group of Welsh football fans who wanted to make a difference to the local community in Baku, Azerbaijan following the Welsh football team. The idea had begun in a conversation between Dylan Llewellyn, Neil Dymock and Gary Pritchard on a bus to watch Wales play an Under 21 game against Finland in Valkeakoski two months before.
Following a visit to several orphanages in Baku with gifts of footballs, football kits, toys and cash donations, visits to orphanages have since become a regular feature of Welsh fans' away trips, as well as helping children in Wales.
From 2002 to 2008 the following people played a part in Gôl at varying times forming a steering group : Dylan Llewellyn, Neil Dymock, Gary Pritchard, Duncan Jardine, Tim Hartley, Mark Ainsbury, Maralyn Olsen, Chris Jones, Rob Santwris and Andy Hurst.
In October 2008, it was decided to register Gôl with the Inland Revenue as an official charity, with Neil Dymock, Duncan Jardine and Tim Hartley becoming Trustees of Gôl. Andy Hurst later joined as a Trustee.
